On a quest

Ever since I ate the world’s best eggplant in Bethesda, MD, I’ve been trying to reproduce it.  This evening’s meal was NOT IT, although it was O.K.  It’s from Anna Thomas’ classic Vegetarian Epicure, and the dal, at least, is always good (even though we were out of red split lentils and I had to use regular lentils).  But the curried eggplant and peas you can skip…..

Dinner was supposed to be a celebration of getting the oven fixed, although as the day waned and it became apparent the appliance people never got the part delivered, I had to switch plans from something baked to another meal prepared on the stovetop.  Oh well, ovens are overrated, right?

It’s New Year’s Eve and I’m alone, although not lonely.  All the kids are somewhere else, and my husband went to bed suuuuuper early so he can get up at an unbelievably early hour and go to work on New Year’s Day (next time you are hospitalized, remember that somebody’s gotta be there for you).  So I think I’m just going to pop some popcorn,  curl up with the cats, and watch a movie.  Happy New Year!

Happy New Year, Claire! We traveled all day yesterday and changed time zones (we were 3 hours ahead in FL) so forced ourselves to remain awake until at least 10 p.m. on New Year’s Eve. We were with Noah, Taryn, Elana and friends until about 8:30. It’s rainy and gloomy here as opposed to sunny and warm, and it makes me want to just go back to bed! I hope your oven gets fixed SOON! xxoo

    What movie did you watch?
here we watched another Christo art movie (where he surrounded Florida’s islands in pink fabric), and I went to bed at 9:30 p.m. Same-same.
