Eating locally is easier in the spring

Yay for spring!  When things are actually growing in Wisconsin.  The other day Claudia gave us a bunch of morels.  These things are worth their weight in gold, I think, or at least that’s how we treat them.  Aren’t they awesome looking?  Like little brains…

We sauteed them just a bit and added the first few spears of asparagus that have poked their heads above the ground.

Yesterday, I took the leftovers, added some vegetables (including garden beans still in the freezer from last summer), basil (ditto) and leftover pasta, tossed in some wine and balsamic vinegar, and it was really awesome. You can still see the morels in there…

OK, so very little is actually available, but we’re getting there, and feeling very hopeful.

Wow. With a friend who gives you bagfuls of morels, no wonder you’re hopeful!
