Who’s That Handsome Cat?

After a few months of medication, Spunky has basically reverted to a lighter, frailer version of his old self.  However, there are times when we are convinced that he’s really “not all there,” and the vet did tell us that as an older cat he probably has developed some dementia.  Lately, he has been fascinated by his own reflection in the dishwasher.  This surprises us, as we’ve always noticed that the cats are not self-aware in that way.  For instance, whenever we’ve held them up to a mirror, it seems they don’t care at all about what’s in front of them.  This is different.

Where have you been all my life, you handsome cat you?

 

We really have to stop meeting like this.

In other news, summer is here and we are grilling…..

…cooking with garlic mustard…. (yeah, it’s in the lasagna!)…

One night I stayed up and made a linzer torte for someone’s birthday.  I did it the easy way, without rolling out a crust, as you can see.  It was still delicious.

One night I went to the Vegetarian Meetup with Andrea!!!  (No photos, unfortunately.)

Yesterday we did the Race for the Cure.  Here I was waiting for the Survivor Photo to be taken.

Despite my bib number, I did not require emergency services.

Today it was so hot I did my cooking in the morning.  This is the oldest recipe we have, or just about the oldest.  A had the New York Times cookbook by James Beard when I met him, and this was his favorite recipe – and still is – lentil salad!

(It calls for "an onion stuck with cloves" to be simmered with the lentils.)

Served on a bed of spinach - not garlic mustard! - and garnished with parsley.

Meanwhile, I’ve been plugging away at a few Chinese phrases in anticipation of being absolutely useless in China.  But…. I do it anyway.
